652,713. Band saws. GRANT, H. July 26, 1948, No. 19882. [Class 145(ii)] A band sawing machine has the saw guided to or from the sawing station by an arcuate series of rollers. As shown a band 6 is supported at one end by a pair of driving pulleys 19, which are driven from an electric motor (not shown) by belts 21, and at the other end by a plurality of rollers 5. The rollers 5 are journalled upon horizontal axles 7 attached to a semi-circular carrier 8, which carrier is vertically pivoted by pins 10 to supports 9. Hydraulic cylinders 13 have sleeves 14, to which are secured the supports 9, the sieeves being connected to the cylinder plungers 15. Thus, when hydraulic pressure is put on the plunger, the support and rollers move to tension the saw. The carrier 8 is moved about the pins 10, to take up the skewed path adopted by the saw, by an offset hydraulic cylinder 17 having a plunger 18. A work table 26, having free mounted rollers 29, is pivotally attached to a central head 31 by end screws 30. The head 31 is integral with a plunger of a hydraulic cylinder 34 so that the work can be raised or lowered by applying pressure to the cylinder. The material to be sawn is held down by a clamp which comprises a holder 36, having rollers 38, the holder being angularly adjustable about a set screw 37 to correspond with work table 26. The slide frame 35 is carried by a screw-threaded sleeve 39 which passes through a screw-threaded sleeve 40 which is screwed through a top member 43 of the machine. The clamp may be raised or lowered by rotating the sleeve 40 by the handle 44, and the holder 36 being kept down by a spring 41, the tension of which may be altered by a handle 42. The Provisional Specification also describes a machine having the band saw guided around an arcuate series of rollers at both ends, one or more rollers being driven.
