Abstract
545,420. Sawing machines. WILKIE, L. A. Oct. 16, 1940, No. 15348. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1939. [Class 145 (ii)] Work carried on a table 15 is cut by a strip saw 9 passing between guides 37, 38 and 52, 53 which form slots of adjustable width and behind which thrust rollers 44, 54 are mounted to support the near edge of the saw when the work is pressed thereon. The work table is angularly adjustable in any usual way and supports a slidable work holder 71, Fig. 7, an aperture 79 in which is to be copied on the work. This work holder is kept pressed towards the saw by an endless chain 98 which passes around a spur wheel 96, Fig. 12, connected as shown with an arm 86 pivoted at 87, Fig. 11 and pulled downward by a weight 79 which can be raised by a pedal 107 to permit the work to be inserted. The work holder is moved angularly by a hand-wheel 117 which communicates motion to a shaft 123, Figs. 7 and 8 by which a telescopic shaft 127 is rotated to rotate sprocket 96, Fig. 12 and so to rotate the work-holder through chain 98. A conduit for blowing air and a lamp are provided. The force with which the work-holder is drawn towards the saw is adjustable by moving the weight 79 laterally by a hand wheel 85<SP>1</SP>. The drive is from a power unit standing in the base shown in Fig. 11, motion being transmitted therefrom by a belt drive to the two pulleys supporting the saw-band.
