Abstract
651,595. Attachments for milling and turning. LUCAS, S. Aug. 11, 1948, No. 21157. [Class 83 (iii)] Apparatus for attachment to a milling- machine or lathe for profile machining multilobed moulds and dies or other non-circular work-pieces comprises a power-driven rotary table c secured on a slide d which is guided on a traversing table c of a milling-machine, or on a vertical traversing table in place of the headstock face-plate of a lathe, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), by means of a power-driven rotary cam also mounted on the table c, the follower j of which actuates a link l connected to the slide d, the cam being rotated at a speed which is a multiple of that of the rotary table. The table e and cam # are driven respectively by telescopic shafts g<SP>1</SP> and g<SP>2</SP> from a power-driven gear-box g, the cam being rotated by a worm h through a gear-box i comprising change wheels. The cam may have a contour on its upper face operatively connected to the cutter head b to reciprocate the latter to effect contouring of the work-piece. A non-rotary cutter may be used. In a modification, the link l is replaced by an adjustable pantographic linkage. According to the Provisional Specification, the rotary table and cam can be driven by an electric motor independent of the drive for the milling machine.
