Abstract
651,018. Stoppers. INNOVATIONS, Inc. April 23, 1948, No. 11197. Convention date, April 24, 1947. [Class 125(iii)] A closure, e.g. for a collapsable tube bottle or can, of the kind which may be partly unscrewed to provide a discharge opening, comprises a neck portion 6, which as shown is screwed and cemented, as an adapter, to an existing screw - top container, but which may be integral with the neck of the container, having threads 14 which are engaged by a projecting thread part 24 on the cap 18. The threads 14 end in an abutment 16, and the cap 18 is forced down on the neck portion 6 so that the projection 24 springs over the sloping surface 14<SP>1</SP> of the top thread and snaps into the thread groove. This permits the cap 18 to be screwed down to make the seal, or to be unscrewed until it is arrested by the abutment 16 in which position the discharge of the contents may be effected between the cap and the conical surface of the top, 40 of the neck portion 6. A gasket 30 is compressed between knife edged rings on the shoulder 26 and on the inside of the cap 18. The taper of the top 40 is less than the taper of the hole in the cap 18, so that the seal is effected on the upper parts of the bevelled surfaces. In a modification wherein the container neck itself is formed with the screw threads 14 and abutment 16, the gasket 30 is dispensed with, the discharge ports are formed in the bevelled surface of the top 40, and the seal is made by knife edges, on the bevelled part of the cap, biting into the bevelled surface of the top 40.
