Abstract
649,793. Non-linear valve circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 24, 1948, No. 11313. [Class 40 (vi)] In a variable gain amplifier of the kind described in Specification 497,060, having an impedance which varies in dependence upon a characteristic of the input signals, and thus varies the gain in dependence upon this characteristic, and in which reactance shunting this impedance produces undesirable modification of the frequency response, a further reactance is added to compensate these undesirable changes. As shown, input signals from a source 3 are amplified by a valve 1 and an output is obtained between terminal 11 and earth. A second valve 2 passes between a conducting and a non-conducting state when the amplitude of the input passes through a certain value and alters the impedance in the cathode circuit of valve 1. The cathode to ground capacity of the valves indicated by condenser 20 affects the frequency response and is compensated by the insertion of condenser 12 as shown.
