Abstract
A process for the manufacture of hydrazine derivatives and triazole derivatives comprises reacting hydrazine or its derivatives having the -NH.NH- structure with carbon monoxide at a pressure above 100 atmospheres and a temperature above 30 DEG C. Semicarbazide and cyclic compounds such as 4 - amino - 1,2,4-triazol-3-one and 4-aminotriazole may be produced. Derivatives of hydrazine may be used as starting materials including hydrazine hydrate semicarbazide, carbohydrazide and hydrazine dicarbonamide. The reaction may be carried out under anhydrous conditions or with water or other liquid media present. The process may be operated continuously. In examples by heating under pressure with carbon monoxide (1) 4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-one and (2) 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole are prepared from aqueous hydrazine hydrate; 4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-one is prepared from an aqueous solution containing semicarbazide and hydrazine hydrate; (4) semicarbazide from hydrazine hydrate and (5) 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole from aqueous hydrazine hydrate and hydrazine dicarbonamide.
