648,416. Suction cleaners. ATHERTON, H. March 25, 1948, No. 8866. [Classes 8(i) and 71] A vacuum cleaner of the kind in which suction is obtained by induction from a stream of compressed air comprises a nozzle having a suction orifice 16, Fig. 1, and a blow orifice 18, a valve box 2 having a compressed air inlet 6 and passages 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, 19, Fig. 7, leading to the suction and blow orifices 16, 18 respectively, normally closed valves 8, 9 for admitting air to one or other of the passages, a handle 3 on the body of the box 2 and finger levers 24, 25 adjacent the handle for opening the valves 8, 9. Suction is effected by, the compressed air traversing venturis 21, 23 in series.
