Abstract

648,160. Valves for reciprocating pumps. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and CARLTON, Q. H. Dec. 7, 1948, No. 31672. [Class 102(i)] A delivery valve for a multi-cylinder pump comprises a cylindrical sleeve 41 mounted freely within a ring of radial delivery ports 35, 38 through which delivery takes place in circumferential sequence from the respective cylinders 12, 15, the ports opening into a cylindrical surface 33 of longer diameter than the sleeve and the latter being urged by the pressure of liquid issuing from a port or ports on one side of the surface to close or substantially close the port or ports on the opposite side of the surface. -The delivery ports communicate with an outlet connection 27 through notches 42 in the ends of the sleeve or alternatively through radial. grooves 43 in the pump body. Liquid enters the pump body through an inlet connection 28 and is drawn into the pump cylinders through disc-type inlet valves 30 each loaded by a pair of crossed blade' springs 31. The sleeve 41 is preferably designed to be slightly defaced by the pressure so as to ensure its seating against the cylinder surface 33 over a substantial length of arc.
