Abstract
647,847. Bearings. MEASUREMENT, Ltd., HEWLETT, S. J., and WOLFENDEN, R. H. March 4, 1948, No. 6782. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Rotor g is suspended or supported by attraction between fixed cylindrical magnet a and armature attached to shaft h, both radially magnetized with centre poles b, k shaped conically and with apices facing one another to produce flux concentration and thus a centralizing force on the shaft h.. A non- magnetic tube l surrounding centre pole band located on the periphery of centre pole k and formed with diaphragm m between the poles b, k limits axial and radial movements of shaft h. The fixed magnet a may be raised or lowered to alter the rotor lift by turning screwed sleeve e. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates the use of a second cylindrical magnet similar to a instead of the dish-shaped armature j. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the fixed magnet comprises a disc secured to an axially-magnetized ring.
