Abstract

647,746. Excavating earth. ELECTRIC STEEL FOUNDRY. Dec. 30, 1947, No. 34814. Convention date, June 6, 1945. [Class 68 (i)] A detachable excavator tooth 42 is mounted on the tapered nose 26 of a support member 20 and held in position by a key 65 which passes through an opening 63 in the tooth to enter a slot 58 extending through the nose perpendicular to the tapered face 28 of the nose. The key is maintained in position by a resilient rubber block 60 that is mounted in a recess 59 formed in the upper face 28 at one side on the slot 58. The block has a protective metal cap 62 on its surface which projects into the passage and this cap engages a recess 66 in the key 65 biasing the key against the rear of the slot 58. The groove 69 formed in the top of the tooth permits a bar to be inserted into the head of the key to remove it. Lateral stability of the tooth is ensured by two tongues 48 formed on the sides of the tooth, which when the tooth is mounted on the nose, fit in correspondingly-shaped recesses 37 in the support member. The longitudinal axes of the recesses and tongues are parallel to the surface 28 of the support member.
