[Class 68 (i)] The shank 22 of a replaceable excavator tooth has a tapered nose over which fits the tooth 36. On the upper wedge surface 28 of the nose is a protuberance 52 having formed therein a recess 55 extending down into the nose, the recess containing a block 56 of resilient material such as rubber. The block carries a curved metal strip 57 projecting beyond and to the rear of the protuberance. The socket of the tooth has a longitudinal recess to accommodate the protuberance 52 and also a transverse recess 59 extending through the sides. In assembling, the tooth is slipped on to the nose of the shank and a key pushed home in the recess 59, the metal strip 57 engaging a notch 65 in the key and biassing the key against the shoulder 60 of the recess 59 to ensure that the tooth remains on the nose. A tongue 34 fits into a recess 48 on the tooth. The tooth can be made in one piece or of welded parts, in which case the materials are chosen to suit the particular working conditions.
