Abstract

646,298. Rivets. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Nov. 20, 1947, No. 30799. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1946. [Class 89(i)] [Also in Group XVIII] An internally threaded tubular rivet for use in securing articles to fragile materials, e.g. letters or signs to glass, has a coating or external sleeve of resilient material such as rubber either natural or synthetic such as a polymerized vinyl chloride. The rivet has a flange 12 forming a head and the sleeve 20 is preferably slipped over the shank to turn outwards against the head at 21. The sleeve is undersize so as to grip the shank when applied. The rivet is upset at 30 forming a fluid tight joint with the glass &c. 10. Letters &c. 11 are then secured against the flanges 12 by screws 16 entering the tapped bores 19. Specification 459,973 is referred to.
