Abstract
646,280. Hydraulic jacks. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and WEBB, W. C. June 18, 1947, No. 29242. Divided out of 646,203. [Class 78 (iii)] An attachment for salvaging a damaged aircraft comprises a pair of telescopic hydraulic jacks, each carrying a wheel at its lower end and having one of its telescopic sections constituting a fluid-pressure container. The telescopic legs 37 each carry a wheel 38 and are attached to a fuselage spanning plate 39, one leg by bolts 43 and the other by quick release pins 40, so as to form a " U " frame. This frame is adapted to be secured to the fuselage by expanding bolts 57, the outer ends of which engage any one of a series of holes (not shown) in a plate 44a secured to an axially adjustable sleeve 44, the inner ends being permanently expanded in an engine mounting tube (not shown). A pair of struts 48 secured to plate 39 are attached to the fuselage by means of the outer ends of a threaded member 50, the two halves of which pass through a transverse hole in the fuselage and are screwed together therein. The legs are extended by means of compressed air contained in the lowest telescopic leg section 37a which has a release valve 41a operated by a control knob 42.
