641,457. Sewing-machines. HIGH SPEED MACHINES, Ltd. Dec. 24, 1947, No. 34260. [Class 112] In a thread-tensioning device frictional restraint is applied simultaneously and individually to a plurality of threads by fluid pressure. A chamber 14 has a flexible wall 19 on which are mounted hardened steel presser-members 27. Compressed air is admitted to the chamber and the pressure within the chamber is controlled by a relief valve. The threads 11 lie in shallow grooves in a plate 28, and are positioned laterally by slots 32 in a guide 31. To adapt the device for different thicknesses of thread the plate may be replaced by a rod angularly adjustable about its axis, and having eccentric circumferential grooves. In a modification the chamber may be liquid filled and the pressure varied by means of a header tank. Specification 605,475, [Group IX], is referred to.
