639,452. Harvesting root-crops. ARKELL, R. J. May 27, 1948, No. 14336. [Class 6 (iii)] A lifting device for globular root-crops comprises a frame 11, 12 carrying obliquely-arranged scraper blades 5, the frame being towed by a tractor and being provided with a stabilizing device comprising a vertical disc 20 rotating on a transverse axle 21, and adapted to cut into the ground. The scrapers push the roots from the ground and direct them transversely. The scrapers are arranged to converge either forwardly or rearwardly in plan, and, in the latter case, a gap is left between their rear ends through which the lifted crop may pass. The disc is adjustable in height.
