Class 6(i) A machine for preparing unploughed ground for planting comprises a roller 64 for rolling weeds or the like on the surface a series of cutting wheels 67 for cutting the rolled surface and a series of concavo-convex discs 50 for turning the cut surface vegetation into the surface of the soil. As shown the implements are mounted on a frame 40. Two sets of discs 50 are provided and are angled by means of a handle 61 through gearing. The wheels 67 and roller 64 are mounted on members 62 pivoted on the axle 48 of the discs and are urged into ground contact by springs 71. The frame is connected to the tractor by hydraulically-operated lifting links 42, 45. Seed sowing mechanism may be fitted on the frame to deliver seeds down chutes positioned at the rear of the discs 50, seed delivery mechanism in the base of the seed hoppers being operated by chain and sprocket gearing from the disc axle 48. In a modification the machine comprises a leading unit and a trailing unit, both towed behind a tractor, each unit comprising two frames side by side having mounted thereon a roller, a series of separately pivotal cutting wheels and a series of discs. The two frames are angled relative to each other, the frames 'of the rear unit being angled in the opposite direction to the frames of the loading unit, by means of a cable connected to the hydraulicallyoperated lifting arm on the tractor. Weights may be placed on the frames to assist earth penetration.
