Abstract
638,265. Floating docks. SAUNDERSROE, Ltd., and GODDARD, J. T. June 28, 1948, No. 17312. [Class 68 (ii)] A floating dock, which remains submerged to a constant level during the docking of the boat, e.g. a flying boat, comprises sides 11, bottom 10, end 12 (not shown), and gates constituting a bay to receive the boat, and laterally extending tanks 19 into which the water from the bay is pumped when the boat is being docked. The dock carries a hanger containing gantry, cranes, &c. The wider portions of the sides of the T-shaped dock are composed of cells, some water-tight, others open to the sea. The bottom 10 is sloped longitudinally and transversely towards the pump suction gratings 20. After entry of the flying boat, the gates are closed and the boat is shored up. Since valves 26 are opened and after the level of water in the bav and tanks is the same, valves 26 are closed, the remaining water being pumped into the tanks when it is required to fill the bay ; the pumps 27 are run in reverse direction. Fenders 32 are fitted along the sides of the bay. The dock can be made in sections for transportation. The boat may be drawn into the dock by a cable as described in Specification 613,157, [Group XXXIII].
