Abstract
637,573. Cystoscopes. AMERICAN CYSTOSCOPE MAKERS, Inc. Aug. 22, 1946, No. 25077. Convention date, Sept. 26, 1945. Addition to 634,918. [Class 81(ii)] A cystoscope or surgical resecting instrument comprises a first assembly, for insertion into a body cavity, including an endoscopic tube and a telescope and cutting electrode means in the tube, a second assembly comprising a support carrying a plurality of spaced bearing members of which at least one is rigidly attached to the support and another is slidable along the support, means secured to the first assembly and rotatably engaging the bearing members for imparting rotational movement to the first assembly with respect to the second assembly, and means connected to the slidable bearing member for imparting reciprocable movement to the electrode means with respect to the tube. According to the drawings, an endoscopic tube 10 having a lateral fenestra 11 may be irrigated by a liquid introduced through conduit 13 and discharged through conduit 14, the tube 10 being attached to a collar 12 having an inwardly tapered recess 17 that engages a connector device 18 having openings to accommodate a telescope 21 and cutting electrode 22. The collar 12 may be locked to device 18 by attachment 25. Support 30 includes a handle 31 to which are fixed two spaced parallel plates 34 with extensions 35 across which are secured the arms 39 of bracket 38. A threaded plug 41 extends through bracket 38 and bears one end of a rod 42 carrying a spring 52 and having its other end journalled in a plug 43. The end portion of device 18 is rotatably mounted in bearing member 55 which is integral with bracket 38. Mechanism 45, reciprocable along rod 42, includes a main body portion 46 bored at 47 to freely receive rod 42 and having a trigger 48 integral therewith. From the body portion 46 extends upwardly a bearing member 60 in which a flanged disc 61 is rotatably mounted and adjacent thereto is an insulated block 66 carrying electrical connections for the cutting electrode. Attached to plates 34 is a third bearing member 74 in which is rotatably mounted a disc 75 carrying the telescope 21 which comprises a tubular body 82, electric lamp 83, eyepiece 84 and electrical connection 85. The endoscopic tube 10, telescope 21 and cutting electrode means 22 may be rotated as a unit about the coincident axes of the bearing members 55, 60 and 74, and the cutting electrode means 22 is separately reciprocable by actuating the mechanism 45.
