[Class 39 (iii)] The holder comprises a conducting head 3 2 within an insulating cap 11 and apertured at 34 t o receive an anvil 38 which is slidable and non-r otatable with respect to the head, and a handle 10 having an aperture for rotatably receiving the anvil and containing a terminal 15 which is drawn to the conducting head by engagement of a screw-thread 35 in the head with an external screwthread 23 on an extension 22 of the terminal 15, so that an electrode is gripped between the anvil 38 and surfaces 36 of the aperture in the head 32. The electrode-engaging surfaces are oblique with respect to the axis of the holder, and an anvilengaging shoulder 44 in the aperture 34 is offset from the shoulder 45 on the opposite wall, so that the anvil contacts the electrode only when the anvil is correctly inserted in the aperture. The handle and cap are of insulating material and have spaced internal and external projecting ribs 29 the bases of which are aligned with one another, and the metal head 32 and terminal 15 have ribs 31 nesting with the ribs on the interior of the cap and handle. The ribs are separated by slots 14 extending through the walls of the cap and handle. Flat sides on a projection of the anvil move between flat sides in the aperture in the metal head 32. The anvil 38 has a cylindrical body held freely rotating in the aperture in the terminal 15 by a tangential pin 41 in the terminal engaging a circumferential groove 42 in the base of the anvil, which rests on a copper washer 43. The cap and handle are held on the head 32 and terminal 15 respectively by spring-pressed pins 26. The inner end 33 of the cap slides over the inner end of the handle. A supply cable 19 is secured by clamping plates 17 and a screw 21 in a recess in the terminal 15. The metal parts are of aluminium alloy. U.S.A. Specification 2,442,029 is referred to.
