Abstract

634,832. Vehicle suspensions; springs. ADAMSON, S. B. Dec. 20, 1947, No. 33726. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] Relates to road vehicle suspensions of the kind in which there is placed between each spring and the chassis a shock-absorber consisting of a piston 7 sliding in a vertical cylinder 1 between opposed springs 9, 9g. According to the invention, the mounting for the cylinder comprises a bracket which has arms 23, Fig. 4, for attachment to the cylinder and which is rotatably mounted on a disc-headed bolt attached to the chassis. The bracket comprises two arms 23, Fig. 4, mounted on a hollow base 24. The disc head of a bolt secured to the body is received in the hollow of this base and held therein by a split plate bolted to the wall thereof. The arms 23 are bolted to flanges 1a on the sides of the cylinder 1 of the shock-absorber, three sets of holes 6 allowing different mounting heights. The piston 7 may be coated with rubber to prevent rattling, and is pierced with holes to prevent air compression. The springs 9, 9g are precompressed and secured to base-plates 3, 3d. A piston-rod 8 is at one end bolted or welded to the piston 7 and at the other screwed to a fork end which is connected by a resilient bush to a pin carried in one of several verticallyspaced holes in a plate secured to the vehicle spring.
