Abstract

633,651. Seats and mountings therefor. MONROE AUTO EQUIPMENT CO. May 28, 1947, No. 14216. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1944. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (ii)] A vehicle seat consisting of. a base portion 14 and back 15 is mounted on the vehicle 12 by means of a U-shaped leaf spring 11 and a tubular fluid shock absorber 13. The lower part 24 of the spring 11 has secured to it a channel shaped member 26 which together with the spring is adjustable fore and aft on a plate 25 secured to the vehicle and carrying the seat with it as a unit. Secured to the plate 25 are angle brackets 32 in which a spindle 31, carrying an eccentric 30, is journalled. Rotation of the eccentric 30 and spindle 31 by means of a spring controlled handle 35 causes a locking and unlocking of the adjustment of the spring 11 by means of a pad 29 adapted to bear upon the channel member 26. The member 26 is provided at the rear with a bracket 28 which carries a pivot 41 for the lower end of the shock absorber 13 the upper end of which is pivoted at 39 to a bracket 19 carried by the seat back 15. The plates 20 of the bracket 19 have welded thereto a sleeve 21 to serve as a socket for the tubular member 18 of a back rest 16, a pin 22 in the sleeve 21 engaging a slot in the member 18. In a modification the leaf spring 11 may be a laminated one and secured directly to the vehicle so that no fore and aft adjustment is possible. The shock-absorber 13 is similar to that described in Specification 625,716, [Group XXXII]
