[Classes 75(i) and 75(iii)] To increase the duration of the liquid fuel supply in a lighter or a small liquid fuel lamp or stove, the wick b is placed in a slidable perforated sheath a which is surrounded by porous material d disposed in a perforated casing f which is placed in the fuel reservoir e, the open end of the sheath a being hermetically closed by a valve or the like when the apparatus is not in use as when the snuffer arm is closed. The casing f is fixed, e.g. screwed, to the reservoir e, a packing ring g being provided at the joint. The sheath a is shown urged upwards by a spring l and when in use projects above a recess in the top of the casing f, but when not in use is pressed down by a spring-urged ball or the like carried by the snuffer arm, which ball hermetically closes the recess by making a circular linear contact therewith at k. To protect the wick the upper end a<SP>1</SP> of the sheath a is preferably a separate member provided with projections a<SP>2</SP> on which the ball may rest. The wick may be of cotton, asbestos or silicates for example. The assembly may be fixed either permanently or removably to the body of a lighter or to a removable fuel reservoir, or may be removably fixed to a reservoir of the capsule type.
