Abstract

628,078. Vehicle seats. ABBOTT, Ltd., E. D., and HIGTON, J. W. Aug. 12, 1947, No. 22447. [Class 52 (ii)] An occasional seat adapted to be withdrawn, for use, from a well in the floor of a vehicle comprises a back the side frames 2 of which are pivoted at 22 to brackets 8 secured in the well 9, a seat proper the side frames 11 of which are provided with lugs 23 which are pivoted about an axis 24 carried by arms 10 which are integral with the side frames 2 of the back 1, a strut or struts 13 pivoted to the brackets 8 at 14 and adapted to be moved into a position whereby they support the rear end of the seat proper, the movement of the links 13 being obtained by means of links 18 pivoted to the arms 10 and to the struts 13. A stop 21 provided on the rear part of the seat proper and engaging the links 18 in the open position serves to limit the opening movement. Cam slots 26, 27 on the underside of the framemembers 11 are engageable by a stud 17 on the end of the struts. In use the front of the seat proper rests on the front wall of the well 9 and when folded to out-of-use position the back wall of the back 1 is flush with the floor.
