Jan. 12. 1953 [Dec 12, 1951], No. 29095/51. - Class 103(2) A utility body for a motor vehicle has a -passenger compartment and a load- - carrying compartment, the front wall of which is normally formed by the back of an occasional seat in the passenger compartment, the back and seat portions of the seat being movable to alternative positions in which one of these portions forms a roof for an extension of the loadcarrying compartment into the passenger compartment, and the other portion forms the front boundary of the extension. In the arrangement shown, the occasional seat comprises a seat portion 18 pivotally mounted at 26, its rear edge 27 abutting the lower edge of the back portion 16 which is in two parts 19, 21 hinged together at 22. Hand grip tags 29 are provided whereby the seat portion 18 may be swung forward to a vertical position and the part 21 swung upwardly to a horizontal position. The parts 18, 21 may then be secured together by the edge 27 on the part 18 engaging in a channel 31 on the part 21. In another arrangement the seat portion and back portion of the occasional seat are fixed rigidly to each other, and are detachably secured to the floor and to the top of the load-carrying compartment. When this compartment is to be extended the seat portions are detached, turned through 180 degrees about a horizontal axis and re-connected. The upholstery is readily detachable and can be replaced on the opposite sides of the seat and back portions.
