May 14, 1947, No. 13015 [Class 6(iii)] In a lawn-mower of the type having no ledger blade and wherein the grass is severed by direct contact with rotating shearer bars 13, the shearer bars are longitudinally - grooved and are carried in groups, lengthwise of the rotor, the groups being angularly displaced relatively to one another. The rotor, Fig. 3, may comprise discs 12a spaced apart on an axle 11 and bridged, circumferentially by the bars 13. The bars carry dove-tailed slides 13a which engage in corresponding grooves in the discs. The rotor 12 is mounted in a subframe, Fig. 5, composed of side plates 8 interconnected by rods 9, the sub-frame being pivoted on the axle 5 of the driving roller 3. The forward parts of the plates 8 include lugs 8a which rest on a shaft 10 journalled in eccentric bearings the rotation of which alters the height of the subframe and the cutting height of the rotor. The motor 14 is carried by the sub-frame and drives the rotor through a belt 15. The axle 5 is driven by a belt 20 from reduction gearing adjacent to the motor. According to the Provisional Specification, the roller 3 is in three or more sections, the central section being of larger diameter to facilitate turning; clutches may be included in the rotor and roller drives so that either or both the roller and rotor may be motordriven, or the roller may drive the rotor while the motor is inoperative.
