Abstract

626,432. Chucks. STISCHER, M. Aug. 27, 1947, No. 23650. [Class 83 (iii)] A chuck comprises a body formed by two separable sections 12 and 14, a frame 26 slidable in the body and having a jaw 56, a jaw-member 50 sliding within the frame, a screw 36 rotatable on the body and in threaded engagement with the frame, and a screw 46 fixed to the jawmember 50 and engaging an internal thread 44 in the screw 36, the screw 46 being of opposite hand to the external thread of the screw 36 so that, on rotation of the latter, the jaws are moved in opposite directions by equal amounts. The slides 22 and 24 for the frame 26 are of different widths in the two sections 12 and 14 so that a shoulder is formed and axial movement of the frame is prevented. One section of the body is screwed at 20 for attachment to the driving means, and the other section has a work-receiving opening 58.
