Abstract

625,388. Two-part couplings combined with switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 28, 1947, No. 20270. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1946. [Class 38 (i)] To enable a plug 16 to be inserted and withdrawn easily, the socket contacts 1 are flexed out of alignment with the plug pins 15 by a carriage 9 which is moved by a cam 14 and which is connected by a lever 17 on the socket frame 5 to a spring-biassed slide 6 provided with apertures 7 which permit the pins 15 to be inserted, whereupon on the return movement of the carriage, the contacts 1 are freed to engage the pins 15. The cam 14 which moves the carriage against a stop 21 is operated by an arm 13 which also actuates a further cam 12 having a spiral slot 11 which receives a pin 10 on the carriage to pull it back and thereby release the pins 15. The lever 17 passes through a slot 20 in the carriage and terminates in a slot 23 in the slide. One side of the slot may be modified to replace the cam 14.
