Abstract

594,426. Two - part couplings combined with switches. BARNETT, A. May 1, 1946, No. 12081/45. [Class 38 (i)] A rotary switch-plug comprises a socket body 2, 3 incorporating fixed resilient contacts 4, 5, 6, the plug pins 7, 8, 9 being received by the socket cover 10, 11 in sockets 24, 25, 26 integral with rotary contacts 21, 22, 23 which are moved into and out of contact with the fixed contacts 4, 5, 6, the socket holes communicating with a space 27 isolated always from the contacts 4, 5, 6. The earth-pin 7 depresses a spring detent 18 engaging a recess 19 in the cover, thereby permitting the plug and cover to be rotated until a stop 20 on the cover abuts the end of a slot 28 in the body, whereupon the plug pins engage the fixed contacts. In this position a catch 17 engages a slot 16 in the earth-pin to prevent the withdrawal of the plug. The cover may be spring- loaded to provide a quick make-and-break action. By omitting one of the plug pins, the device may be converted into a two-pin singlepole switch plug.
