Abstract
624,668. Hoists. EDEN, J. F. Feb. 4, 1947, No. 3247. [Class 78 (iii)] A hoist comprises a trolley having pivotally mounted on it a boom comprising two or more telescopic'sections, which boom can be brought into an upright or inclined position in which a loadcarrying platform can be moved up and down on it, the boom and platform being capable of being collapsed and folded on to the trolley to form a compact unit which can easily be wheeled from place to place. In the embodiment shown, the boom 1, Fig. 1, pivotally mounted at 2 on a trolley 3, comprises four sections each in the form of a parallel-sided frame as shown in Fig. 3 and adapted to slide one within the other, the boom being extended or collapsed by a cable connected to a hand-winch 5. A carriage 6 having pairs of rollers 7, 8 is raised along the boom by a cable 6<SP>1</SP> connected to a winch (not shown) driven by a petrol engine (not shown) on the trolley. A load carrying platform 9 pivotally mounted on the carriage is held substantially horizontal by a pair of links 10 having pins at their upper ends which can be inserted in any one of a series of holes in the side of the carriage. To ensure a smooth passage of the carriage as it passes from one frame to another, its rollers 7, 8 each consist of four flanged rollers as shown in Fig. 4, the flanges of the rollers engaging channels 16 formed by metal strips 15 secured along the sides of the frames.
