Abstract
624,321. Mowing machines. COOPER, G. W. July 2, 1947, No. 17408. [Class 6(ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A mowing machine comprises a wheeled frame 14 having an endless band elevator 11 running in an inclined trough 10, the frame being provided at its front with a revolving cutter cylinder 24 which feeds cut grass to the elevator. The machine may be self-propelled, but, as shown, it is tractor-drawn by a hitch 21. The elevator is similar to that shown in Specification 564,838 and includes tines 12 attached to the endless band. The rear end of the elevator is carried by adjustable struts 19. The cutter cylinder is driven from the tractor through a shaft 46, gearing 48, a shaft 53 and bevel gears 54, 36. The end of the cutter remote from the bevel gears is carried in an adjustable resiliently-mounted bearing 28. The ledger blade 43 carries forwardly projecting teeth 44 and a rearwardly-extending guide surface 41 for the cut grass.
