Abstract

623,033. Suction cleaners. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. July 29, 1946, No. 22533. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1945. [Classes 8(i) and 8(ii)] A suction cleaner comprises a removable dust container, container displacing means adapted to be made effective upon operation of control means for moving the container outwardly from the cleaner under the positive action of a,force provided by the cleaner, and closure means automatically sealing the container prior to such displacement. As shown in Fig. 1 a dust container 20 has a spring-biased flap valve 36 which is normally held open by a duct 28 secured to the cleaner cover 18. On the removal of the cover 18 the valve 36 is closed and a rod 64 is urged by a spring 70 out of engagement with a lever 52 to allow it and the motor fan unit 44, 46 to which it is secured to rotate 180 degrees about a vertical pivot 50 and so eject the container 20. In a modification the container 20 is partitioned at 90, Fig. 3, from the fixed motor fan except for a normally open valve 94 which is linked to a valve 120 controlling an opening 18 to atmosphere in the motor fan compartment 42. The container 20 is ejected when a normally closed conduit 106 becomes uncovered by a pad 116 secured to a movable blowing-hose connection 114. In a further modification, container ejection is effected by a triggerreleased compression spring located between the motor end and a perforated plate adjacent the permanently closed end of the container; the other end of the container being closed on ejection by a spring- biased plate valve.
