Abstract

620,639. Light refractors. HOLOPHANE, Ltd. (Soc. Anon. Holophane). Jan. 24, 1947, No. 2339. [Class 75(ii)] A light controlling device comprises one or more flat or slightly bulged transparent or translucent members each of which is provided on one face with a series of annular refracting prisms 1 centred at the intersection with the member of a normal dropped from the light source and on the other face with diffusing elements 2 disposed in straight lines. The refracting prisms 1 are on the face turned towards the light source and the diffusing elements 2 are formed by the intersection of two series of flutes of circular arcuate crosssection or by spherical calottes moulded on to the diffusing face and arranged in parallel lines. The two sets of flutes may be different. A central aperture in the device for inserting an electric bulb may be closed by a translucent plate.
