619,568. Glass-to-metal seals. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 12, 1946, No. 36756. Convention date, April 20, 1945. [Class 36] [Also in Group XL (a)] A sealed envelope, more particularly for an electronic device, includes a glass portion and a metal portion, consisting of columbium, which forms a glass-to-metal seal with the glass. The ends of an envelope 13, Fig. 2, are sealed as by pinch seals 19. The filament 17 is mounted on columbium metal conductors 21 which extend through the pinch seals 19 and form seals with the glass. Alternatively, the envelope 13, Fig. 3, may have a re-entrant portion 29 terminating in an annular rim 31. The electrode 15 comprises a thimble 33 of columbium having a skirt portion 35, the thin edge 37 of which forms an hermetic seal with the rim 31.
