Abstract

1,025,831. Valves. GILLBERG. A. G. April 23, 1964 [April 26, 1963], No. 16920/64. Heading F2V. A water tap is provided with an auxiliary valve 22 between the inlet 15 and the tap valve proper 5 to allow the latter to be replaced without shutting off the water supply to the tap, the auxiliary valve being held off the seating 21 when the valve is assembled by a distance not affected by operation of the valve proper by means of a spindle 12, and seated under fluid pressure when the spindle is withdrawn. Operation of the valve proper is effected by rotating handle 11, which rotation is transmitted to a screw member 8 in threaded engagement with a member 7 carrying the sealing member 5, the member 7 being restrained against rotation and the screw member being restrained against axial movement. To replace the sealing member 5, spindle 12 is unscrewed until its upper and lower threaded portions 44 simultaneously disengage corresponding threaded portions in the screw member 8, whereupon the spindle is forced upwards by water pressure until the lower threaded portion of the spindle engages the upper threaded portion of the member 8, in which position the shoulder between portions 45, 46 of the spindle is above the O-ring 6, allowing a small flow of water to occur to thus seat the auxiliary valve with a characteristic sound. The valve can then be dis-assembled and the sealing member 5 replaced.
