Abstract

619,342. Endless-belt conveyers. TRIGGS, W. W. (Diebold, Inc.). Dec. 3, 1946, No. 35808. [Class 78 (i)] In a microfilm conveyer of the kind including a belt having an upper carrying surface adapted to support and move documents or the like along a plane through microfilm apparatus, and means for conjointly supporting and moving said belt, the conveyer is characterised in that said belt is of the kind having a portion below the upper surface thereof substantially narrower than, and extending lengthwise of, the belt, such portion engaging said supporting and moving means, whereby lateral motion of said belt is prevented and said belt is thereby adapted to carry material placed thereon in a straight path parallel to the direction of movement of said belt and whereby material on said belt may be subjected to a photographic process while carried thereby free from contact with said supporting means. A plurality of parallel belts 13, Figs. 1 and 5, having crosssections as shown in either Fig. 3 or 4, are driven by a grooved pulley 11 and pass over a grooved idler pulley 14 and grooved guide rollers 27, 28 which support the document at the point 18 where it is illuminated by lamps 21, 22 and photographed through a lens 20. The documents are inserted at 17 and pass between idler belts 15 and belts 13 across space 18 and then between idler belts 16 and belts 13 to a discharge point 19. The apparatus is controlled by contact members 23, Figs. 1, 5 and 6, the tongues 24 of which are engaged by the passing documents and pivoted so closing contacts 25, 26. In a modification the upper surfaces of the belts are grooved longitudinally to prevent the documents slipping thereon. In a further modification the undersides of the belts have pockets 86, Fig. 15, formed therein, which engage teeth cut on pulleys 11, 14 and guide rollers 27, 28 in such a manner that relative longitudinal motion between the belts is eliminated.
