Abstract

616,831. Photo-electric control of knitting machines. STANLEY, W. E., and EDWARDS, C. H. May 23, 1946, No. 15661. [Class 40 (iii)] A knitting or like machine is stopped or a signal given when faulty fabric causes an undue variation in the amount of light reaching a photo-electric cell traversed across the fabric, an optical system being provided to form an image of the light source in the vicinity of the fabric. As shown, a mirror 5 facing the lamp 2 extends across the diameter of a semicircular convex lens 6 contiguous with a circular convex lens 7 of identical focal length, the image of the straight lamp filament 8 being reflected back from the mirror 9 arranged just below the fabric 11 as a parallel beam to the photo-electric cell 4 which may be connected to a relay. Specification 541,729 is referred to.
