Abstract
615,298. Articulated railway trains. PATENTES TALGO SOC. ANON. Oct. 10, 1946, No. 30310. Convention date, April 12. [Classes 103 (iv), 103 (v) and 103 (vi)] In a train of articulated cars a, Fig. 6, each car has only a single pair of wheels 20 and is coupled to its adjacent car by a central connection c and two laterally spaced connections d, Fig. 2, these connections being such as to keep the ends of the cars in alignment, as in Fig. 4, so that the wheels always meet the track at a negative angle of attack, thereby reducing the danger of derailment. As shown in Fig. 8, the wheels 20 run on axles 20<SP>1</SP> extending between sleeves 21 resiliently mounted on vertical columns 22, secured within box-like structures 17 at each side of the car end. As shown in Fig. 10, the central connection c comprises a vertical pivot c<SP>1</SP> in a yoke 26 which is coupled to a pin 33 and a flanged bearing 28, which are mounted on pivots 35 and 30 respectively in the ends of adjacent cars, the connection c thus restricting lateral displacements of the car ends to angular movements about the pivot c<SP>1</SP>. As shown in Fig. 12, the connections d comprise pivot pins 41 and 48, mounted vertically in rubbercushioned bearing sleeves 42 and 49, secured to the car frames 13. The pin 42 has a longitudinal extension d<SP>1</SP> able to slide in a bearing sleeve 50 secured to the pin 48 so that these connections d prevent disalignment of the car ends vertically. To provide the greatest possible safety factor against derailment, the length of each car is made between three and six times the wheel gauge. Specification 579,476 is referred to.
