Abstract
614,858. Lamp fittings. SMITH, R. A., and YOUNG, F. Aug. 7, 1946, No. 23375. [Classes 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A holding device for an electric lamp is adapted to be resiliently held in either of two positions in a housing and to be readily removable therefrom. Two springy phosphor bronze wires 5 are each bent in the form shown and secured by studs to a mounting plate 2 seated in an aperture of the housing 4 and having a backing plate 3. The upper part of each wire 5 is looped around an insulator on the end of a festoon lamp 1 and the straight vertical part provides a fulcrum 6 about which the device can be rotated into the open position (see Fig. 2) in which it is held by the resilience of the lower part 7. Notches may be provided on the part 7 to hold the device in intermediate positions. The device can be removed from the housing 4 by springing the end of the part 7 over the housing wall. Springs 8 mounted on a cross bar 9 in the housing 4 press against the lamp 1 and, preferably, they supply current to the lamp contacts. The plates 2, 3 may be opaque, transparent or translucent, or they may act as a reflector.
