Abstract
613,967. Locking-nuts. JERNEWALL, H. M. May 28, 1946, No; 16209. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1945. [Class 89 (i)] Lock-nuts having a counterbore 13 to receive a spring that engages the bolt threads are constructed to permit removal of the nut, when required, without damage to the threads. To effect removal the end 14 of the spring that is retained in an open slot 15 is prized free therefrom enabling the nut to be reversely rotated through an angle sufficient to bring an abutment pin 17 into contact with the inner end of the spring to expand it and permit complete unscrewing. In modifications the pin 17 is replaced by a projection struck up from the wall of the counterbore or by a recess therein. In the latter case the inner end of the spring is slightly out-turned. The slot 15 may lead into an external notch to facilitate the application of a prizing-tool.
