Abstract

[Class 44] [Also in Group XVIII] In a pressure cooker, autoclave, &c., the lid 10 is secured to the body part 15 by a splitspring ring 13 which is housed in, but normally projects from, a circumferential retaining groove 12 in, for example, the lid and is adapted, when the lid is applied to the body, to be engaged by a tapered part 17 of a flange 16 on the latter so as first to be forced into its retaining groove and, thereafter, to snap back into engagement with a shoulder or groove 18 on said flange. -One end of the split-ring is anchored to the lid by a screw 14 and the other end is formed with a projection 20 which, upon clockwise rotation of the lid relative to the body, will engage one of several indentations 21 in the flange 16 and effect expansion of the ring into its retaining groove to permit removal of the lid. Fluid-tightness between the lid and cover is secured by a rubber sealing ring 19 which projects from a groove in the lid.
