Abstract
612,929. Converting. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. June 6, 1946, No. 17291. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1945. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A phase-meter in which the polarity and value of the output voltage vary with the phase difference between an A.C. voltage and voltage pulses of the same or a sub-multiple frequency, . comprises two thermionic valves 4, 5 connected in anti-parallel relationship in series with a parallel combination of resistance 2 and condenser 1 from which the output voltage is taken, the series arrangement being supplied from a transformer 3 to which the A.C. voltage is applied, the voltage pulses being applied to the grids of valves 4, 5. The time constant of the circuit is made so small that the condenser voltage attains at once the instantaneous value of the A.C. voltage, and the time constant of the condenser 1, resistance 2 parallel arrangement is made so large that the condenser volts remain constant during the intervals between the pulses. Fig. 2 shows the condenser voltage 10 the same as that value of the A.C. voltage at the instants pulses 9 render valve 4 conductive, and how the condenser voltage 101 is reversed in sign when the phase of the pulses 9<SP>1</SP> is such that they make valve 5 conductive. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a wave shape-changing circuit in which the frequency of the pulses is greater than that of the input A.C. voltage and the output voltage is A.C. with a stepped wave-form, Fig. 2 (Cancelled). Frequency changing is also mentioned. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
