Abstract

546,738. Converting. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 23, 1941, No. 6631. Convention date, July 19, 1940. [Class 38 (ii)] In a polyphase converter comprising valves 4 of the immersion-ignitor type, saturable reactors 14 are inserted between the ignition electrodes and the transformer 9 supplying control current whereby the wave form of the ignition current is distorted to peaked impulses. Auxiliary rectifiers 17, 18 are connected as shown so that only impulses of positive polarity are applied to the control electrodes. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) condensers are connected in series with the saturable reactors 14, and the anode shields 7, instead of being connected to the anodes as shown, are connected to tappings on the transformer supplying control current.
