543,550. Frequency changing. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 2, 1940, No. 13754. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1939. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] Frequency multiplication is effected by applying an input frequency in push-pull and in phase quadrature to control grids of one or more multi-grid valves, and taking off the multiplied frequency from an anode circuit. In Fig. 3, pushpull input voltages are applied both to the control grids 9, 11 and to the positive grids 13, 15 of a multi-grid valve, one input voltage being shifted into quadrature phase with the other by a network 33. A voltage of quadrupled frequency appears across the output impedance 31. Alternatively the frequency-doubled output from a first stage may be applied to the suppressor grid of a second valve, the control grids of which are excited in push-pull by voltages displaced in phase, preferably by 90 degrees from the voltages applied to the first stage (Fig. 4, not shown).
