Abstract

611,405. Turbine rotors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and WHITEHEAD, L. T. Oct. 6, 1944, No. 19246. [Class 110 (iii)] A rotor for a multi-stage axial flow compressor or turbine consisting of a plurality of co-axial solid discs directly interconnected at their rims so that the latter form the equivalent of a hollow drum, has axial grooves cut in the drum-like assembly to receive the blading and associated spacers which extend across the point between the discs to prevent relative rotation between them. The discs 1, Fig. 2, are provided with rim flanges 2, 3 which are secured together by mating screw threads 4 to form a drum-like assembly. Mounted in axial grooves 6 cut in this assembly are blades 5 with serrated roots 5a and blade spacers 7 which bridge the screwed joints between adjacent discs. In a modification, the screw threads 4 form only a part of the flanges 2, 3, the remaining part being used to form a well fitting spigot and socket connection between the rims. The spigot and socket may be tapered so that when the discs are screwed together a tight joint is formed. To prevent the screwed joint working loose the flange of a cooler disc is arranged to overlap that of a hotter disc.
