Abstract
610,630. Printing-machines. HOLMES, A. H., HOLMES, F., and HOLMES, A. L., (trading as Holmes & Co. (Printers' Engineers), Ltd.). April 12, 1946, No. 11238. [Class 100(ii)] Inking - apparatus. - In printing- machines of the kind comprising an impression cylinder and inking rollers mounted on a slide reciprocating in a direction opposite to that of a reciprocating table carrying a forme, and wherein sheets are fed from a supply table to grippers on the impression cylinder by a suction bar and inking of the forme is effected by a roller moved into and out of contact with a fountain roller 3 rotated step-bystep by an arm 2 oscillated by a cam 16, vacuum control-mechanism is provided for automatically putting out of action the mechanism for rotating the roller 3, e.g. when a sheet is not covering holes in the impression cylinder, when a sheet is not picked up by the suction bar or when a valve is opened by hand. The vacuum control-mechanism comprises a suction cylinder 4 connected by a pipe 5 to a pipe leading from a suction box to the suction bar, a plunger 9 in the cylinder being pushed outwardly by a spring 10 when the suction fails, whereby a pin 11 on the plunger is moved into the path of a catch 15 on the arm 2 and prevents movement thereof. The automatic mechanism may be rendered inoperative by turning the catch upward to be clear of the pin 11.
