Abstract

610,472. Zeroizing mechanism. CARTER & CO., Ltd., B. & F., and CARTER, B. April 8, 1946, No. 10707. [Class 106 (i)] Zeroizing mechanism for counters which have transfer pinions between each juxtaposed pair of numeral wheels, each pinion co-operating with a multilated gear on one wheel and meshing with a complete gear on the other, has each pinion formed with alternate teeth recessed such that when they are moved clear of the wheels, each pinion engages a roller mounted on a resilient plate, the diameter of the roller being such that it enters one of the recesses in the pinion teeth and co-operates with two adjacent unrecessed teeth. The units wheel 5a is formed as a drum with a notch 14 with projections 15 on one side and a complete gear 16 on the other, motion being communicated. thereto through a driving shaft 8. The other wheels 5b, 5c, 5d, 5e are of similar construction and between each wheel is a loose transfer pinion 17 on a spindle 12. Normally, each pinion is in mesh with a complete gear 16. Alternate teeth of the pinion 17 are cut away 17a so that no movement is transmitted until a tooth 17a engages a projection 15, the next long tooth falling into the notch 14 and being itself carried round by the second projection 15 until the next short tooth is presented to the flange, the movement of the pinion being transmitted to the next wheel. A rock-shaft 13 with a zeroizing handle 19 has a set of levers so that when the shaft is oscillated the transfer pinion 17 is moved clear of the numeral wheels and the wheels are returned to zero by the action of the levers 21 on cams 25 associated with the wheels. A resilient plate of metal 26 attached to the frame has a spindle 28 parallel to that carrying the transfer pinions. A plurality of discs or rollers 29 are mounted on the spindle 28 and each is arranged so that as the adjacent pinion 17 is swung out of mesh with the numeral wheel the roller enters the recess in one of the short teeth and engages the two adjacent long teeth, thus preventing the spindle 17 from turning.
