847,962. Counting-apparatus. PANDOZY & FIGLI S.r.I., G. Nov. 8, 1957 (Nov. 14, 1956], No. 34925/57. Class 106 (1). In a numeral wheel counter, zeroizing is effected without disengagement of the transfer pinions, by means of pawls pivotally carried by the wheels and adapted to engage with longitudinal grooves in the numeral wheel shaft. As shown, the numeral wheels 4 of a counter adapted for printing are mounted on a shaft 3 carried by the casing 2 and separated by spacers 14 supported on a shaft 15 carried by the casing. The numeral wheels each bear two series of numerals 0-9. The lowest order numeral wheel 4<SP>1</SP> is driven by a rotary gear 8<SP>1</SP> meshing with gearing 5<SP>1</SP> on the wheel. The higher order wheels are driven through transfer mechanism comprising two diametrically opposed transfer teeth 6 on the lower order numeral wheels, corresponding to the two series of numerals, which teeth are adapted to co-operate with transfer pinions 9 mounted on a shaft 7 and separated by spacers 13, the transfer pinions being in mesh with gearing 5 on the higher order numeral wheels. Alignment of an indicated number is effected by the pressure of balls 12 between the two adjacent teeth of the transfer pinions and in the case of the lowest order wheel by a pinion 8 coaxial with the transfer pinions, the pressure being maintained by the action of the springs 11. The pinion 8 also serves to prevent over-running when a counting operation ceases. Zeroizing.-The numeral wheel shaft 3 is rotated through one revolution by the knob 19 whereby longitudinal grooves 16 co-operate with pawls attached to the wheels to return them to zero. The pressure of the balls 12 on the transfer pinions 9 and the pinion 8 acts frictionally to prevent premature rotation of the numeral wheels. The zero position of the shaft 3 is determined by the co-operation of a projection on a spring-biased lever 23 with a notch in a circular cam disc 20 fixed to that shaft 3.
