609,669. Lenses. TAYLOR, TAYLOR, & HOBSON, Ltd., and COX, A. March 20, 1946, No. 8622. [Class 97 (i)] In a corrected objective comprising as shown a simple front convergent component, a central simple divergent component and a rear doublet, the distance S<1> is between .060 and .090 times the equivalent focal length of the objective, the distance S<2> is between .8 and 1.8 times S<1>, the divergent element of the rear doublet has a lower refractive index and AbbÚ V number than the biconvex element thereof and the expression P<1>(D<1>+1.65S<1>) has a value between .125 and .180 when P<1> is the contribution of the front surface of radius R<1> to the Petzval sum, i.e. P<1>=(n1-1)/n1R1, when n1 is the refractive index of the front element, and D<1> is the thickness shown. Data for three examples are given in two of which the surface R<5> is plane.
