Abstract
609,546. Locks. KUMIN, J. March 15, 1946, No. 8131. [Class 44] In a latch bolt mortice lock adaptable for right- or left-hand opening, the end of the bolt 3 is forked, each arm 3a being shaped, e.g. as oppositely directed cams 3c so as to co-operate one with a tumbler 10 on the handle spindle and the other with a blocking member 14 which is operated by a pin tumbler cylinder lock made in three parts, the central part of which is within the lock case and the end parts 23, 24 are adapted to be secured thereto. The blocking member 14 is of inverted L shape, sliding against the rear wall of the casing, and operated by rack-and-pinion gear from the central part 16 of the rotating barrel of the look. A spring 27 urges the member 14 into locking position. The central part 16 rotates in a fixed part 18 secured in the lock casing and the outer parts 23, 24 are secured to the central part by screws passing through holes 25, the rotating parts being connected by dowel pins 22 on the rotating barrels of the outer parts which enter holes on the central rotating barrel. A spring-pressed pin 26 is provided to partially eject the key if left in the lock.
