Abstract

Latches, sliding; locks, cases for; lock mechanism, lever-type.-The latch-bolt d of a rim or mortise lock is pivoted about a pin o upon a cylindrical follower b having a groove in its periphery to house the recoil spring n, which works between a screw m and a stop on the casing. Bosses T, T<1> on the handles t, t<1> are connected to each other and to the follower b by screws P, P<1>. The cover-plate is secured by fitting into a dovetail groove on the curved side of the casing, and by a screw v at the opposite side. Within the follower b may be fitted a part e, shaped as shown in Fig. 5, and carrying a spring pin g, capable of engaging either of two recesses in the follower b. When the part e is turned through a right angle by a separate inside handle x, the movement of the latch is blocked. Fig. 7 shows the addition of a key-lock to a latch-mechanism as above. Tumblers g are first depressed by the key so that the pin h on the bolt e is unblocked, whereupon further movement shoots the bolt. The tumblers are then returned by springs l, and the pin h is again blocked.
